happening at our school recently.
YEAR
6 GRADUATION
On the evening of Tuesday 15 December Year 6 gathered in the Church with their families and friends to celebrate their final Mass as students of Mary Immaculate Parish Primary School. The students used the celebration as a means of giving thanks to their parents and to the staff of Mary Immaculate for helping them throughout their primary school journey. Their teachers Mrs McGinnity and Mrs Perrin as well as our Principal Mrs Tobin spoke about the achievements of each child and reflected on the students' development from Kindergarten to mature Year 6 children and excellent leaders of our school. We wish each and every child all the best as they embark on the next phase of their schooling. Photos of the Graduation Mass can be found here: Year 6 Graduation Mass
2010 SCHOOL CAPTAINS

Congratulations to our new student leaders for the 2010
school year. Pictured are our Captains, Chloe and Julian
and Vice Captains Katelyn and Blake. We are sure you will
be responsible leaders of your fellow students.
On Tuesday 8 December our school community gathered to celebrate the end of the school year. We gave thanks for the blessings bestowed upon us this year. Thank you to the staff for their dedication throughout this year and to the parents for your constant support of your children's education. Most of all, congratulations to the students for working so hard all year to achieve your goals. Photos: End of Year Mass
CHRISTMAS LITURGY
Mary Immaculate celebrated Christmas this year with a Liturgy, which took us through the Christmas Story from the Annunciation to the birth of Jesus Christ. Each grade was responsible for performing a song and preparing a reading from the Gospel of Luke. The children put a lot of effort into preparing for the Liturgy and enjoyed sharing this celebration with their parents. Photos from the day can be viewed here: Christmas Liturgy
Recently, all of our 2010 Kindergarten children and their families gathered for a welcome barbeque. They were joined by staff from Mary Immaculate and our Parish Priest, Father John. Each family had the opportunity to tour the school facilities and meet fellow Kindergarten families. Every child has been attending 'Big School' for 1 and 1/2 hours each week for a Kindergarten Transition Program, allowing the children to experience the routines of school before they arrive next year. Please view photos of the barbeque here: 2010 Kindergarten BBQ.
MARY IMMACULATE SPRING FAIR
On Saturday 24 October we celebrated our annual Spring Fair which aims to raise money to support both the parish and the school. Our community gathered to enjoy a warm day full of fun activities including shopping, games, rides and of course lots of prizes. We would like to thank all of the people who were involved in making the day such a success, without your generosity we cannot hold events such as this. Please view photos of the day here: Spring Fair.
THE POLICE VISIT YEAR 1
As part of our Human Society and It's Environment unit this term, Year 1 learned about various Workers in the Community. The work of the Police proved to be most popular with the students and needless to say they were very excited when the local Police came to school for a visit. They spend some time explaining their job to the children and answered all of the children's questions in great detail. Click on the following link to view pictures of the day: Police Visit
FIRST EUCHARIST

On Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September children from Mary Immaculate Parish received the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time. Thank you to all those responsible for preparing the children at this very important time in their faith journey.
On Monday 20 September, Mary Immaculate celebrated Book Week. All staff and students came to school dressed as a book character or in a safari outfit. The children spent the day participating in a variety of activities based around Book Week then finished the day with a parade to show off their outfits. It was a fun filled day for all involved. Please view photos of this event: Book Week
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
On Sunday 23rd August, children from our parish received the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Peter Ingham shared this most special event with the children and their families. He offered a thought provoking homily that left all present reflecting on the pure innocence of children. Congratulations to all the children who were confirmed, may you be filled with the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, may you continue to fell this presence in your lives. YEAR 4 NEWS
During Term 2 Year 4 studied and investigated operating Communities’. This is an example of our art work based on Grandma Moses’ style. She was an American artist.
We learned many things about our local community of Eagle Vale and Campbelltown. For homework during Weeks 9 and 10 we completed a project on services provided by Campbelltown council and how Local Government works. It was fun and interesting to do.
We were also looking at cycles but did not get around to making our water cycles. We have started these and are checking them and making observations every day. We made terrariums to see the water cycle in actions.

OPEN CLASSROOMS
During Week 2 of this term, all classrooms were open to parents. They were invited to observe and participate in Literacy each morning. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing a morning with their parents and showing them what their typical day at school consists of. We received overwhelmingly positive comments from parents as a result of the visits and look forward to opening the classrooms again in Week 4 during Mathematics. enjoyed participating in a wide range of both fun
activities and competitive events. Some of these included
800m, 200m and 100m running races, shot put, long jump,
discus, high jump along with a variety of fun activities
including relays, ball games and sack races. Well done to
all the children for participating in a variety of events
and contributing towards another successful Mary Immaculate
School event. Thank you to the many parents and family

YEAR 1 EXCURSION TO SYMBIO
On Wednesday 1st July, Year 1 traveled to Symbio Wildlife Gardens at Helensburgh. We traveled by bus, which was the most exciting part of the day for some students! When we arrived, we walked around the park in small groups to see all of the animals. We saw many new animals and learned a lot of new facts. The kangaroos proved to be very popular. We were extremely lucky to find 3 friendly kangaroos who stayed with us all day for a pat and a feed. One even had a joey in it's pouch who popped out to say hello! We were able to touch many of the animals, including the kanagroos, dingoes, lizards, snakes and a koala. It will be a day that the children will never forget. NETBALL GALA DAY
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN YEAR 5
Year 5 have been very busy researching and learning about Antarctica. We have been particularly focusing on the human impact on Antarctica. Studying the food chains of many animals has allowed us to realize the effect that humans have on the abundant wildlife of Antarctica.
Below are some artworks we have completed that show some of the animals that can be found around and within the waters of Antarctica. We had to use a technique of blending colours to give a 3D effect and then select appropriate animal pictures to suit our landscape.

SACRED HEART MASS
On Friday 19th June our School community gathered to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus goes back to the 11th century. It continued to develop throughout the centuries and reached a peak during the 17th century. Today it is celebrated each year on the Friday after the feast of Corpus Christi or 19 days after Pentecost.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus represents not simply His physical heart but His love for all mankind. A love that is unconditional but especially makes room for the sick, the poor, the lonely and the impoverished.
At Mary Immaculate Parish Primary School, this feast is highlighted each year with a special acknowledgement for a student who has demonstrated loving and caring qualities towards others over a period of years while at school.
This year, the recipient of the Sacred Heart Award is Alexandra. Congratulations Alexandra on being recognised by the Mary Immaculate community as a person who possesses such wonderful qualities.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
On Thursday 18th June and Friday 19th June 82 children from our Parish received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. The children have spent this term preparing for this special time. The children and their families attended a beautiful liturgy which focused on the meaning of Reconciliation. Many thanks to all the people involved in preparing the children and to their families for your ongoing support in their faith journey.
YEAR 6 CROSS-STITCHING

Recently, Mrs. Perrin & Mrs. McGinnity taught the whole
Year 6 grade how to cross-stitch. At first, many students
found it difficult. But after practising hard, many caught
on.
Our first design was a Tulip flower for Mother’s Day.
After everyone finished cross-stitching their designs, we
glued them on a plain card.
Our second design was made for Year 6’s donation
towards the Spring Fair. We had a variety of designs to
choose from. Some girls learned how to back-stitch messages
for bookmarks & mini-signs with sayings for your homes.
We hope to do more cross-stitching in the future because we
love it and we’ve got really good at it.
